Experts Workshop on the Izmir Peninsula Inventories

On September 29, 2017, the Izmir Peninsula Inventory Experts Workshop was held at the Zeytin School.

City volunteers came together and started working to ensure the continuity of the Peninsula Sustainable Development Strategy, which covers the districts of Urla, Çeşme, Karaburun, Seferihisar and Güzelbahçe, led by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality with the goal of ‘local development’. At the Izmir Peninsula Inventory Expert Workshop, held on September 29, 2017, at the Karaburun Zeytin School and attended by nearly 40 experts in their fields, the agendas of realizing the “scientific collaboration” that will bring together the works of scientists on the peninsula, “citizen science” that provides data production with the cooperation of the local people and volunteers, and finally creating a model for the Mediterranean life were discussed.

It is envisaged that Izmir will set an example in the Mediterranean basin with this model, which aims to create a database on the natural and cultural assets of the peninsula, to combine scientific studies on this subject, and to create an understanding of protection that is strengthened with the participation of citizens.
